In 1980 the city annexed land from Flamingo Road west to U.S. 27, which roughly doubled its size. Homes in Chapel Trail, Silver Lakes and the rest of West Pines sit close to wetlands, preserves and open land, so there is more wildlife moving through backyards than in older eastern neighborhoods.
