East Miramar’s Flat Roof Concrete Homes
The city says A.L. Mailman bought the first land from H.D. Perry, Sr. in 1953 and built 56 low cost concrete homes with flat roofs. Back then U.S. 441 was a 2 lane road and Pembroke Road was dirt out to University Drive. Many east side homes still follow that simple, flat roof style, and they fail in different spots than a tile roof home out west.

No big attic, but plenty of gaps
With little or no attic, roof rats often settle in the low space above the ceiling, inside wall voids or in the garage. We look at the roof edge and trim, gaps around roof drains, old vent and pipe openings and spots where an addition meets the original wall.

Tile roofs and lake lots
Homes in the western communities are usually stucco on block with concrete tile roofs, often on a lake or near a preserve. Roof rats climb palms and fences and walk the tile to the ridge. Mice slip in under garage doors and around pipes.
