New Streets Next to Old Wetlands: Avenir and the Loxahatchee Slough
The far west side of the city is where wild land and brand new homes meet. Avenir sits north of Northlake Boulevard and south of the Beeline Highway, and the Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area stretches along PGA Boulevard nearby. Hurricanes Leave Openings Rats Find Fast
Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004 and Wilma in 2005 knocked out power for days in Palm Beach Gardens and damaged many homes. Storms like these crack tiles, bend soffit panels and tear screens. Rats find those gaps within weeks.
Piles of storm debris at the curb also give rats a place to hide until pickup. Keep piles away from the house when you can.
